Russia is dissatisfied with the growing cooperation between the United States and Armenia, U.S. Secretary of State Marco Rubio said during congressional hearings.
“Russia is not particularly pleased with our interactions with Armenia,” Rubio stated. “I believe there is evidence that they would like to see the current leadership defeated in the elections because of the development of relations with the United States.”
Rubio made the remarks while also discussing the TRIPP initiative, which he described as the “anchor” of the peace agreement between Armenia and Azerbaijan.
According to the Secretary of State, the initiative is more than just an anchor—it is truly transformative.
“As a result, we are now very actively engaged in this effort. We have literally signed an agreement, and it will allow American companies to invest in ways that benefit the private sector, American interests, as well as the interests of Azerbaijan, Armenia, and other countries in the region. We hope this will help drive further progress,” Rubio said.
He reiterated that Russia is dissatisfied with the expanding relationship between Washington and Yerevan.
“I believe there is evidence that they want the current prime minister to lose the election because of Armenia’s growing relationship with the United States,” Rubio said.
Rubio emphasized that the United States is not interfering in Armenia’s sovereignty or its relations with other countries. Instead, he said, Washington is interested in building a relationship with Armenia based not only on peace but also on mutually beneficial cooperation and shared opportunities.
